John Hall from England with a great Chum Salmon!
LOWER BASE CAMP FISHING REPORT
REPORTING FOR THE WEEK OF July 16th to July 23rd, 2022
WATER TEMPERATURE AND CLARITY:
The river has risen substantially and has cooled quite a bit high forties/low fifties. The water is a bit stained from the recent heavy rains but the salmon seem to love it.
WEATHER CONDITIONS.
Weather this week has been quite cool, rainy, and windy with most days reaching highs
in low 50s.
HOT FLY OF THE WEEK:
Hot pink streamers have been excellent for salmon.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
The acclaimed Michael Rescorle of England managed 46 grayling in a single day while walking side channels with Cutler. Pretty amazing feat considering the time of year.
WILDLIFE SPOTTED:
Had our first bear visit in camp this week. We’ve also been seeing black and white warblers, greater yellowlegs, Pacific loons, osprey, occasional bald eagles, and the Arctic terns are still hanging around.
COMMENTS FOR THE WEEK:
The chum bite is still on fire! Trout have been a little difficult with the colder water and most of the grayling have made their way to the lake by now but there are still a few to be found in side channels. Fortunately, the humpies and dollies are picking up.
