LOWER BASE CAMP FISHING REPORT WEEK OF JULY 13th to 20th, 2019

WATER TEMPERATURE AND CLARITY:

Low 60’s high 50’s. Crystal clear throughout the river.

WEATHER CONDITIONS:

Its cooled up a bit since last week. The last couple of days have been overcast with intermittent spells of rain.

HOT FLY OF THE WEEK:

The Lama for Trout; Anything pink for the Chums

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:

Every once in a while, we see a Pike on the Kanektok. The pike live in lakes along the river, but some make it into the river during high water. While their presence is not a highlight, successfully targeting and removing them is. This week’s highlight was Sarah Brandes’ Pike, caught on a mouse, in the lower river!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

“Every day on the Kanektok is a great day, you never know what it will bring!” – Marcia Brandes, Florida

WILDLIFE SPOTTED:

Five Bears, a couple of Moose, and a Black Capped Chickadee.

COMMENTS FOR THE WEEK:

The Chosen fished awesome this week! The river is dropping, and the fish are stacking up. Chums, Sockeye, Dollies, and Humpies are continuing to pour into the river. This week, we did a little bit of everything. Salmon fishing Chums and Sockeye were the heavy hitters. The Chums are laid up and aggressive along the bars. With the low water, there are lots of great places to fish marching Sockeye. The Rainbow fishing has continued to be fantastic, with a big fish caught on the mouse nearly every day. With Brandes and company, camp was full of smiles and laughter. Another great week in the books!
