LOWER BASE CAMP FISHING REPORT

REPORTING FOR THE WEEK OF July 23rd to July 30th, 2022

WATER TEMPERATURE AND CLARITY:

The river is holding at a higher level now that the tundra is saturated but the clarity is getting better by the day. Temps are ~low 50s.

WEATHER CONDITIONS.

Weather this week has really been all over the place. We’ve had cloudy and windy days with highs in the upper 40s and bright sunny days in the high 60s/low 70s.

HOT FLY OF THE WEEK:

Pink/white intruders and dali llamas have been doing work on the chum and humpies.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:

First silver of the season landed this week!

WILDLIFE SPOTTED:

Several mink, beaver, and a couple bear spotted this week. As for the birds, lots of Emperor’s geese, magpies, goldeneye, harlequin ducks, and long-tailed ducks have been documented.

COMMENTS FOR THE WEEK:

The river is still up after last weeks big rain. Clarity has improved but its still got some color to it in the main river. As expected with higher off-color water the salmon fishing is off the charts. This week we continued to catch tons of chrome Chums and Humpies. We
are even still seeing Chums with sea-lice. A handful of Silvers have been caught in the lower river, and Dollies and Sockeye are still marching. The trout fishing has been tougher. The Trout are in a transition between the banks and the salmon beds. In addition, the colder water keeps them from moving far to take a fly. Despite the challenging trout fishing plenty of our guests persevered and caught their first Rainbows ever on the mouse. Its exciting to see the Chums makes such a big return after a slow Chum season
last year. With an awesome group of guests that were down to fish everything this was a great week on the river.
